NORTHCOTE COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of-the Northeot< Borough Council was held last evening The Mayer, Mr. C. A. Deuxberry, preelded and Cra. J. B. Tonar, F. J. Maxwell, E. W B. Herrick, A. R Shutes, C. Bunker, A J. Lennon, C. A. Clark, A. W. Smith, one J. F. Jackeon were also present. Refuse Incinerator.—lt was decided t< inform the Marine Boroughs' Associatioi that the council considers the proposal re garding the'annual costs in connection witi the combined refuse destructor as satis factory, but Iβ of opinion that the collec tion of the rubbish should be a joint mattei for the four boroughs, to be worked ii conjunction with the operation of the de structor, and the cost allocated on a housi basis. Works.—The foreman of works (Mr. P Colvin) reported that the metalling, blind ing and*rolling of Queen Street was com pitted from Belle Vue Road to Clarencf Street, a length of 28 chains. Mr. Lennox referred to the road machinery recentlj purchased. He considered the -whole outfit unsatisfactory, and was of opinion that thi road was not scarified at all. "It is no: a scarifier—it'e a toy; that's all it is!" hi asserted, and indicated that a road rollei waj necessary. In reply to questions, tb< foreman said the machine had not reallj scarified the way he would like—nothing like a steam roller. For hauling and grad ing the machine was satisfactory, but iti weak point was as a scarifier. Advert* weather conditions prevailed, the roadf being hard. Dog ' Registration.—The annual fee foJ dog collars was fixed at 10/, with the exception of working cattle dogs, which are tb be charged '2/6. Mr. J. Mackay'e Quotation for dog collars was accepted. Cattle Ranger:—Mr. Wm. S. Blackburn was appointed cattle ranger, etc, Mr. Werner Uageinuth having accepted another position at Cambridge. By-laws. —It was agreed that the draft of the br-lawe be printed and submitted for the council's consideration. College Road. —A petition from four ratepayers In College Road to have this thoroughfare graded and metalled between Mr Roper's gate and the portion already metalled, was referred to the Works ComBlttte. ..
