MUST BE WATCHED.

FUTURE ART UNIONS. - STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph.— Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. Questioned regarding a report that the Government has issued regulations controlling art unions the Hon. R. F. Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs, stated that no regulations have been issued, but since August last the amount of prizes has been limited to £500. Only two permits issued before that date for larger amounts remained for utilisation. The Minister declared that art unions must be closely watched, and balancesheets would have to be produced showing expenditure. "There must be control," he added, "otherwise the real object of a drawing which should be of some public benefit is defeated. It is not intended that people should get a living from promotion of are unions and the sale of tickets, as has been the case."
