riELD DAY AT COURT. MANY MOTORISTS FINED. Another batch of citizens appeared at the Magistrate's Court this morning, charged with breaches of the traffic regulations, as well as one or two breaches of other by-laws. Mr. G. R. Hogan, Chief Traffic Inspector, represented the City Council. Frederick Ripley was fined 10/ and costs for not having a rear light on his vehicle. / 1 For leaving his car facing the wrong r direction, D. B. Laurie was fined 10/ and I costs. Leonard Hardley, for leaving a car ' turned to the right in Queen Street, was fined 10/ and costs. A Dangerous Practice. Mr. Hogan remarked that there was a ■growing dangerous, practice of people on bicycles hanging on to vehicles to be dragged up a lull. In order to chock such a practice, steps were being taken to prosecute offenders. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., said the practice was a most dangerous one, and if not checked heavier sentences must be imposed. For this breach of the regulations, Roy a Jones and Patrick O'Shea were each c fined 10/ and costs. A boy was also s ordered to pay costs. Cutting Corners. The following were each fined 20/ and 3 costs for cutting corners:—Harold Clark, Harry French, William Gill, Leonard i Matthews, E. McCarthy and Samuel Milf lar. Fredrick Smith, for a similar - hreach, was fined 10/ and costs, fc p " No Licenses. 3 Roy Grainger was fined 20/ and coste - for not having taken out a heavy traffic s license. John A.- Noonan and William Worthington were each fined 10/ and costs for leaving cars unattended. John Peris (Mr. .Singer) was fined 40/ and conts for not having a license as a hawker, and Thomas P. Ig Mount Albert Cases. 1, On the second day of the races a trap c- was set on New North Road in Mount Albert Borough, with the result that some owners of cars were charged this morning with speeding. The defence was that Mr. Beaumont was not at the place referred to at the time n it was alleged he had been guilty of :1 dangerous driving. Evidence was given n by four witnesses to show that defent dant was at Belle Yue boardinghouse at t ten minutes to four o'clock, the time he - was alleged to have been guilty of dan- ■- gerous driving. c ~ i BARTER AMONG THIEVES. i , I YOUTH GET PROBATION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A system of barter instituted by four youths employed by city retail firms led to their appearance at the Magistrate's Court this morning to answer a series of theft charges. The system of the accused was to exchange goods they 7 stole from their employers. The total r value of the goods stolen was £12 7/. The t youn<rest of the accused was 18 and I the eldest 20. They were admitted to I probation for three years, and names were suppressed.
