12,000 YEARS.
PROHIBITION SENTENCES. WASIfINGTON, December 1. During the five and a-half years during which prohibition has been in force, the gaol sentences have amounted to 12,000 yaars, and fines to £6.000,000, according to an official report* which discloses that the Government is prosecuting in the larger and more spectacular cases and that the hearings are being ptished tltrough with greater promptness. Sentences ate steadily increasing, from on average of 21 days in 1923 to 43 days ih 1925. There were 1300 more Federal convictions last year than in the year before.
