Among those present were Messrs. E. C. Cutten, SJVL (president) and Mr. H. Stebbing (organising secretary of the T.C.L.). Mrs. Preston Chambere, -who left Auckland nearly two years ago, in company with Mr. Preston Chambers and her two sons, returned to Auckland on Sunday by the Aorangi after a very pleasant time spent abroad, Mrs. Chambers landed in England three days before Wembley opened, and was disappointed to find that the New Zealand section of that great fair was not by any means ready—cases were everywhere—and when the pavilion was ready, it was not up to the standard of the other Dominions. This year things were very different, she explains, as the New Zealand display was one of the very best of the pavilions, although the Australian pavilion was splendid, even better than that arranged hy Canada, which generally takes first place at these displays. When the Auckland visitors. landed in London I there was a great deal going on of ' interest to oversea visitors, and dihrierß, banquets and garden parties given by j the King were attendtd. After a round ' of gaieties in London they motored all over England, Scotland and Wales, and even went as far as the Shetland and Orkney Islands. Mrs. Chambers' mother's parents lived in that part of the north, and she had great interest in visiting their old home. Some time was spent at Scapa Flow, when the raising of the' German battleships was being undertaken. The water was very shallow where the sunken destroyers lay, and the masts of those ships that were still beneath the waves were visible. South Wales waa the next trip undertaken, and the Auckland travellers were present at the Welsh match against the All Blacks, of whose play they saw fourteen matches. Then followed tours of Switzerland, the Riviera, Nice, Cannes, Italy both north and south,, and in Romi they were lucky enough, to be at Holy Week and saw St. Peter's illuminated for the first time for. fifty-five yekrs* -for the" canonisation of Sister Therese, known as the Little Flower, to whose tomb they afterwards paid a visit. They re- ■ turned through France and the valley of the Loire, with its castles, Brittany, the Ardennes and Holland. The battlefields and Alsace and Lorraine were -visited and Mrs. Chambers said that the recovered provinces were co beautiful that she m not wonder the Germans did not to gra them up again. .
