WAR ACCOUNTS.

N.Z. AND AUSTRALIA. FEDERAL MINISTER ARRIVES. (From Our Own CorresDondent.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Among the passengers who arrived by | the Makura from Sydney to-day was Sir Neville Howse, V.C., Minister of Defence in the Commonwealth of Australia. Sir Neville is accompanied by Lady Howse, Colonel T. J. Thomas, Financial Secretary to the Commonwealth Defence Department, and by Mr. F. A. McLaughlin, private secretary. The mission on which Sir Neville Howse has come to New Zealand has reference to the adjustment of some small accounts for munitions and war stores supplied by New Zealand to Australia during the Great War. His stay in the Dominion will be brief, as he puv poses returning to Australia from Auckland on Friday, but before leaving Sir Neville Howse and his party hope to visit Rotorua. "This is not my first visit to New Zealand," remarked Sir Neville Howse, in the course of a conversation with a "Wellington Post" representative. "I was here in IPOS, when I visited Rotorua, and I have been longing ever since to get another glimpse of that delightful place." Sir Neville remarked that the major items in regard to war .supplies had been settled between New Zealand and Australia some years ago, but a few final adjustments remained to be made, hence his visit. There was not a large amount of money involved in the transactions which remained to be disposed of, and he had no doubt that a complete adjustment would now be possible. "It is an extraordinary mandate from the people for law and order against mob rule," said Sir Neville Howse, when asked to comment on the result of the Australian general election. "Besides that, it is an extraordinary personal triumph for Mn Bruee." , • Sir Neville was disinclined to express his views on the question of further coordination between New Zealand and Australia in regard to defence, but said he had no doubt but that there would be complete co-operation if the necessity arose. He referred to the fact that the New Zealand and Australian naval units met occasionally for combined training.
