INFLUENCING A WITNESS.
AMERICAN CHARGE DISPROVED. WASHINGTON, November 20. Tlie court-martial, which ia trying Col. William Mitchell, formerly Assistant Air Chief of the Navy Department, on charges of insubordination arising out of his criticism of the Department in connection with the wreck of the dirigible Shenandoah, has exonerated Captain Paul Foley of the intentional wrongdoing in regard to the charges brought against him by Mrs. Margaret Lansdowne.
Mrs. Lansdowne is the widow of Lieut.-Colonel Zachary Lansdowne, who was in charge of the Shenandoah when it was torn to pieces by a gale, 15 of the crew, including Col. Lansdowne, being killed. Captain Foley was judgeadvotate at the court-martial, and Mrs. Lansdowne asserted that he had written a letter asking her to change evidence she had previously given before the court-martial, and testify only to certain facts Before the court.
Notwithstanding the exoneration of Captain Foley, it has been decided that he cannot resume his neat on the court.
