WORK IN T AUCKLAND. I There was a large attendance last night at the annual meeting of the Auckland Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, which was held in Beresford Street Congregational Church, the Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher pre- ' siding. The opening exercises were con- I ducted by Canon J. Haselden and the Rev. W. A. Sinclair. The president, ! Archbishop Aver-ill, forwarded an apology for non-attendance. Another was received from the Rev. David Calder, of Wellington, general secretary for New Zealand. Miss E. Harvey, secretary of the Auckland Auxiliary, submitted the annual report, which showed marked progress for the past year. New branches were opened at Turua, Ngatea, Kere- j peehi, Opotiki, Whakatane, Te Puke, ' Waihi and Ponsonby. This brings up the total of branches to 45. } Mr. A. Macdonald, honorary treasurer, ! read the financial statement, which showed a record income for the year. The total receipts were £2093, of which £1670 was forwarded to London for the work of the society. ' ! The reports were adopted, and after addresses on the work of the society, the following officers were elected: President, Archbishop Averill; j vice-presidents, Canon Haselden, the Revs. G. Bond, J. W. Kemp, E. R. Harries, L. B. Fletcher. Mr. R. L. Srewart and Mr. R. A. Laidlawj honorary treasurer, Mr. A- Macdonald; honorary auditor, Mr. Thos. E. Whitton; committee, Canon James, Canon C. H. Grant Cowen; the Revs. W. A. Sinclair, L. JB. Busfield, W. D. M. Sutherland, J. F. Jones and L S. Stehbins, Dr. W. H. Pettit, Messrs. H. Field, J. W. Court, J. Fleming, W. R. Wilson, H. J.. Edmiston, W. D. M. Glaister, P. J. Bodle, C. E. G. Tisdall, W. T. Brand, H. Chadwick, H. M. Smeeton, L. A. Wilson, R. Utting and W. J. Mains.
