POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. J. H. Fray, J.P.) THEFT FROM TILL. Alexander Brickley (18), for whom Mr. J. J. Sullivan appeared, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing 7/ the property of James Webb, at New Lynn. In relating the facts of the case, Senior Sergeant Edwards said that complainant, who keeps a fish shop at New Lynn suspected that some one was robbing his till. He set a trap by placing some marked coins in the till. When accused came in to make a purchase complainant left the shop and watched 'through a window. Bricklej r then took 7/ from the till. On being immediately questioned he frankly admitted the theft. Mr. Sullivan informed the Bench that Brickley had yielded to temptation. It was his first offence and counsel suggested that he might be given the benefit of a period on probation. Tlie Bench concurred and placed Brickley on probation for one year. REMANDED UNTIL TO-MORROW. A remand until to-morrow morning was granted in the case of Robert Hume (23), alias Hughes, who was charged as follow.: On June 7, 1924, with stealing £10, the property of Arthur Ford Chiles; theft of a cycle, valued at £8, and a fl note, the property of James Mawson, of Ruawai; and with the theft of £5 in money, the property of A. G. King, of Ruawai. Accused was also charged with failing to comply witjft the terms and conditions of his release on probation.
