NORTH ISLAND CLAY BIRD SHOOTING.
HAMILTON MEETING. CURTIS, OP AUCKLAND, WIXS THE HANDICAP. On the Hamilton Gun Club's grounds at Ruakura, Hamilton, a two-days' North' Island clay 'bird shooting meeting wae opened yesterday afternoon in fine weather conditions. The events include the North Island championship and a £100 open handicap. Competitors are present from all over the North Island and some very excellent markmonshlp was witnessed. | Dr. P. D. Pinfold, the club's president, welcomed the visitors, and la the course of his remarksspoke feelingly of the absence of some well-known faces who passed into the beyond during the year, he also mentioned the name of Mr. S. Green, late manager of the Ruakura Farm, who had always been of great assistance to the club, and his many courtesies were much missed on the farm by them. . • The big handicap was won by Mr. F. Curtis, of Auckland, who shot the possible of 21 birds. 12 Bird Sweepstake (28 entries).—This was .keenly contested with seven getting the possible, and seven only missing one bird, and Elx missing two birds. The first seven divided the prize money, and these were:—■ Messrs. Clinch, 'Seddoa, G. Peach, CurtU, McGredy and McMiken. 10 Bird Sweepstake (21 entries).—This proved an interesting shoot in a failing light, still no less than ten tied, getting ths possible. These then had a 16-bird eboot off, each going back ,i yard as they shot a bird. P. Woolven gat the Iβ bird», with P. Loughlln and Dobson only missing one bird and divided the second money. The first ten. were:—Messrs. Semmen, Seddon, King, Dobson, Amudsen, Hayes, Loughlln, Seccombe, W. H. Hughes and Woolven. The whole of v the arrangements were In the hands of Mr. Colin Speight, the local secretary, and they speak volumes for hie thoroughness by the smoothness' in whicll they ran.
