MOUNT ALBERT AFFAIRS.
i a ■ MEETING OP BOROUGH COUNCIL. At last night's meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council the Mayor (Mr. L. K. Rhodes) presided. Most o' the business transacted was that dealing with subdivisions and improvements in the borough. _ ~ The District Engineer for Railways wrote stating that the work of erecting an automatic alarm at Woodward Road would have to stand over till more dangerous crossings had been attended to. The same applied to Argyle Street. The Mount Roskill Road Board requested the Council to consider the question of extending its fire brigade operations to include part of the Mount Roskill district. The letter was referred to the Water and i'ire Brigade Committee. Strong criticism of the Auckland Power Board's methods in connection with Mount Albert was made by Mr. It. 3. Allingham. He said the Board were neglecting the district, and had shown a lamentable want of foresight. If It had a businesslike concern the Board would have anticipated the requirements of Mount Albert, and would have ordered materials and plant in advance. A second member of the Council also voiced a strong protest, and said he thought the trouble was due to the Council's lack of representation on the Power Board. On the motion of the Mayor it was decided to ask the Auckland Power Board to receive a deputation. CLOTHES WHITER THAN EVER.
