ACTION AGAINST DETECTIVE.
AFTERMATH OF COLLISION. NEGLIGENT DRIVING ALLEGED. Allegations of negligent driving were made before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning against Alfred Hammond, senior detective of Auckland (Mr. Moody), who was the defendant in an action brought by T. J. Watson, builder (Mr. Northeroft), for £14 17/3, for repairs and special damages, and £25 2/0 general damages, a total of £40, as the result of a collision between the t\7o parties in Khyber Pass on June 8. Defendant brought a counter claim for £3S 18/ against plaintiff alleging that Watson was guilty of negligence. Plaintiff's story was that he was driving down Khyber Pass, when Hammond came out of Claremont Street at an excessive speed. Plaintiff applied the brakes and skidded, the back of his car *uttin? a tram and sending him into defendant's car. Evidence was given by George William Cook, who was at the time a tramway motorman in charee of the tram hit by plaintiff's car. Witness stated that the car coining from Claremont Street was going so quickly that he thought it would hit the tram. He applied the.' emergency brake. Caroline Fraser said that in her opinion defendant's car was travelling at nothing under 30 miles an hour. (Proceeding.)
