PROHIBITIONIST MISREPRESENTATION OF MR. C. P. SKERRETT'S ADVICE. * HIS GENUINE OPINION. Wellington, 2nd November, 1925. The Secretary. Associated Clubs of New Zetland. Wellington. Dear Sir.— You have this morning called my attention to an advertisement published in the Prohibitionist interest. -which by its printing and arrangement tas caused many persons to believe that I have advised the people to vote for Prohibition. I give a positive and emphatic denial to any such statement or inference. The quotation from a letter which was addressed to individual club members (and was. by the -way. marked " Private and confidential" ) is accurate in itself, but is divorced from its context. The purpose and meaning of my letter -was to apprise members of clubs that " Every vote for State purchase and control counts definitely against Prohibition." Although I felt -within my rights in tendering advice to members of an organisation of -which I am President, I have never presumed to advise electors generally ho-w to record their votes. But the use made of the quotation compels mc to say that I NEVER HAVE BEEN IN FAVOUR OF PROHIBITION OR ADVISED ANYONE TO VOTE IN ITS FAVOUR. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DESIROUS OF INCREASING THE VOTE IN FAVOUR OF STATE CONTROL BECAUSE IT IS Tl|E SPEEDIEST AND BEST WAY TOWARDS THE ADOPTION OF SOME SYSTEM OF CONTROL WHICH WILL RESULT INPERMANENT REFORM AND IN THE LIMITATION OF PRIVATE PROFIT ARISING FROM. THE SALE OF LIQUOR. Tours truly, C. P .SKERRETT. VOTE FOR STATE CONTROL. COAL. COAL. COAL. HOUSEHOLD AND KITCHEN. PROMPT DELIVERY FROM. J. J CRAIG, LTD., AUCKLAND. Telephone 44-840. MOUNT EDEN.
