CANOE PARTY CAPSIZED.

ONE MAN DROWNED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAURANGA, this day. The police here have received word that a Maori named Tawhio Petera was drowned yesterday at Matakaua Island. Eight Maoris were crossing a tidal creek in a punt, which capsized. All of the Maoris got ashore with the exception of Tawhio. whose body has not yet been recovered. Deceased was a native of high rank, and was about 30 years of age.
