AGAINST THE PRESENT LAW. Clos.r View pf the Position. An Authoritative Statement by ex-Governor E. c. Stokes. Speaking at the Elm wood Presbyterian Church on Thursday, March 22, 1923, the Hon. K. C. Stokes, formerly Governor of Xew Jersey, said: "It is idle to say that the convictions for violations of the Volstead Act (Prohibition) on the records are foreign-born. Statistics are often misleading. It is easier to convict a foreign-born than it is an American citizen for an offence. Moreover, there would be no bootleggers unless there were patrons, good Americans like you and mc. At least three of the great Chun-lies of this country, largely, so far as their clergy are concerned, are against this law. It is absolutely true that a very large number of the Church members of this land are agaiijst this law. "We are forgetting the serious problems of the land, domestic and international, in a foolish light over the socalled Wet and Diy, and i»en are voting, aye, and women, too, largely upon a question of the appetite, aijd the great political party to which you and I belong is going out of power because of it." Failure? lt is worse than a failure! It is the duty of every patriotic Xew Zealander, man and woman, to vote for Continuance, so that New Zealand may be raved from the evil; of Prohibition .Ad.)

"Goodwill" envelopes are a credit to Xew Zealand and the ladies supporting; €d packet!/ Totman, -stationer.— (Ad.)
