THE TORRINGTON CASE.
A PEER ACQUITTED. LONDON, October 23. Lord Torrington V been found not guilty on a charge of passing a valueless cheque. He stated in evidi-nce that he believed the cheque would be met by a lady friend paying in his allowance.— (A.* and X.Z. Cable.) It was alleged that Lord Torrington presented a cheque for £10, written on notepaper. upon a Nottingham bank, to Oliver, a chemist, at West Falling. Kent. Oliver, although suspectins the cheque'? validitiy. advanced £5. The bank dishonoured the cheque because Lord Torrington's monthly allowance of £2.5 had been stopped. 'Torrington did not reply to Oliver's request for an explanation. lutt anonymously sent a nionpy-order for £5 after proceedings had been institu'ed.
