CAPTAIN SCOTT'S SHIP.
RETURNS TO FALMOUTH.
LONDON, October 1
The ship Discovery has returned to Falmouth with a 'slight defect in her machinery.— ( Reuter.)
The ship Discovery, famous as having been used by Captain Scott, was reconstituted and sailed out of Plymouth in July last. She was to spend over two years in a research voyage in the Antarctic, the chief object being to examine the whale nurseries, the hatch of the marine mammals, and if the extremely destructive methods of modern whalers will eventually kill out the whole whale family. In the ordinary course, if she had not gone back to England to repair, she would have reached Georgia about October 7.
