SWEETS OF OFFICE. LONDON, October 1. Commenting on the nroposal of the New South Wales Government to Tncrease the salaries of Ministers and members of Parliament, the "Morning Post" says: "We admire the sureness with which the Labour Government has seen how to put first things first."
The paper recalls tho story of the wife who only had cold mutton in the house when her husband brought some friends home.
"Whatever did you do?" inquired her friend.
"Well, mv dear." wns tbp renlv. "T iust had the presence of mind to p-et a chon- and go-laos of sberrv for mvsolf."
The "Post" proceed*: "Tho Labour of Npw Smith Wnlo* hno shown the samp sort of prpspnep of miirf ~*mrp may bp little in the house, but Ministers and their surmorters have made sure of their own nnd glass of sherry."—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)"
