I I LONDON, September 30. j King George has conferred the Albert ' Medal on Mr. Gordon Lees, of Newcastle, New South Wales, for his heroism in attempting to save the life of Mr. Jack Canning, who was attacked by a shark at Newcastle on March 12 last.— (A. and :N.Z. Cable.) ' Jack Canning, 22 years of age. was' bathing in the surf at Newcastle on March 12, and was savagely attacked by ' a shark.
