THE STABLEMAN.

QUESTION OF A UNION

Is it advisable for stablemen to form a union apart from the drivers, and have a separate award, was a- matter brought before tbe Arbitration Court this morning. Mr. G. Davis represented the Motor and Horse Drivers' Union, and Mr. S. E. Wright the employers.

Mr. Davis asked tbe Court to include the stablemen in the Drivers' Union. It wa? not desired, he said, to include men in the confidential employ of the employers. By this he meant a man who fulfilled the position of the employer in and discharging men. Practically a foreman, but he left the interpretation to the Court. Mr. Wright said that in the opinion ~f the employers to bring the stablemen into the same union as the drivers, over whom they hud control, would not be satisfactory. They did not object to a separate award. Tliere were about 20 affected. Representatives of the employer? in pvideme expressed the opinion that to have the men in the same union would be unsatisfactory. The stablemen were i lokcd upon as the employers' agents ;md reprimanded tbe driver? when necessary. They would not so satisfactorily perform their duties if they wire in the same union a? the men under their charge. Decision was reserved.
