FIRE AT STRATFORD.

THREE SHOPS BURKED.

(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) .STRATFORD, Monday. A serious fire occurred on Broadway early this morning, and three shops— the Broadway tearooms. Mr. E. Brocklebank's fruit shop and the "Elise,"' together with their contents—were completely destroyed. The fire was fir«t noticed by a resident in Miranda Street North," and the Fire Brigade received a call at 3.4... When the brigade-arrived on the scene the fire had a tremendous hold. The buildings wore wooden and, being very old. caught fire easily. Dense volumes of smoke considerably interfered with the work of the brigade, but in less than an hour the fire was completely in hand. Tlie fire is believed to have started in a back room of the Broadway tearooms and. fanned by a south wind, to have spread to Mr. Brocklebank's shoo and then to the '"Elise." The buildings, which belonged to a syndicate of Stratford business men. known as Broadway Buildings, Ltd.. were insured in the Eagle. Star and British Dominions Office for £700. The contents were insured as follows: "Elise.'' £300 in the South British Office: E. Brocklebank. fruiterer. £200. South British Office. The Broadway tearooms, it is understood, were insured for £400 in the Eagle. Star and British Dominions Office.
