SOCIAL JOTTINGS.
Mrs. D. C. Bates, 8.A., president of the Wellington Lyceum Club, is visiting Auckland, and is staying at Hotel Braeburn. A letter from Mrs. Helena Archdale, editor of "Time and Tide," the brilliant newspaper started by Lady Rhondda, written to an acquaintance in 'Wellington, expresses great interest and approval of the report issued by the committee appointed by the Government here to inquire into matters connected with mental defectives and sexual perverts. Mrs. Archdalc, in acknowledging the report sent from Wellington, says that it is so excellent that she forwarded it at once to the "Six-Point Group," which, she is sure, will find it most interesting. The opinion, is expressed that for such a report to be issued shows that, New Zealand is considerably ahead in thought on these matters and connection with remedial measures. Mrs. Archdale says that in ..England women are still trying to bring before authorities the terrible seriousness to the victims of sexual assaults, and to get commensurate punishment.
