AUCKLAND POWER BOARD.
ORDINARY MEETING. Mr. V.". J. Holdsworth presided at th« ordinary meeting of tiie Auckland Electrlo Power Board yesterday. Reporting to tlie board on reticulation tn general the chief engineer. Mr. R. H. Bartley said: "We are endeavouring now to revise the designs of our high and l 0" tension Hues with a view to effecting * reduction in the cest per mile of reticulation. This amended design "will not «i m in any wav at reducing the high standnra of work ami materials. It will follow more on the lines of reducing the number of poles per mile run, thus Increasing the spans. Tho i-onereting at the base of the poles will lie done away with except in the cases of angle and strained poles. Th 9 low tension wiring will lie hare in place of triple braided wherever possible, and 1' is hoped that by this modification we co/» reduce our reticulation costs lv the sparsely populated rural areas without reduction of reliability and duration. I have not yet brought this matter to nnr Onai issue, but hope to do so tn ttfe nrar future or before we actually commence the very thinly populated parts of our area." In connection with the rcrpiest of *!»« Alfristcn branch of tho Dairy Farmers' Tnion for reticulation of the district, the engineer reported Mint ho hnd informed them that the district was such ft scattered one that the time was a little distant before the extending of supply could be goaa Into.
