. J TROWERN V. PURDY. TO-NIGHT'S CONTEST. That the contest to bo staged at the Town Hall to-night between Charles Purdy and Reg Trowern has provoked widespread interest is shown by the fact that nearly every seat that may be booked has been pencilled. Hundreds of country patrons will be present, and the Northern Boxing Asscoiation's only regret is that the Town Hall will not be large enough to accommodate all who desire admission to what promises to be the fight of the year. Purdy, as an undefeated professional, is anxious to uphold his reputation, while Trowern, who has performed rather well since he last met the ex-Olympic lad. when the decisiou was given against him. is expected to make a big effort to establish his claims to equality at least in point of ability. The preliminary bouts, in which some of the best of the Auckland amateurs will perform, are expected to provide first-class entertainment.
