i AMERICAN NATIONAL SINGLES. (Received 11 a.m.) FOREST HILLS, September 14. In the first round of the national singles, Anderson beat Jones, 6—l, 6—l, b—3. Tilden, Borotra, Johnston, Williams, Alonzo, and Lacoste won straight sets. Harada beat Kinsey three sets to one. Lacoste and Alonzo easily took their first matches. Lacoste has received a cablegram ordering him to sail for France on Wednesday for compulsory military training. American lawn tennis officials appealed to the Acting Secretary of War to intercede with the French Embassy at Washington so that Lacoste may finish his play in the national championship.— (A. and -N.Z.
