SMALL OFFERINGS AXD STEADY PRICES. A slightly better tone w,as noticeable at the auction of hides and sheep skins this afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce, Swanson Street. Offerings were on the small side, which perhaps helped to steady the market. Calf skins did not recover the recent drop in price. * Sheepskins, dry. One lot of halfbred, 12d per lb; half to threequarter, best fine crossbred, 104.cl to lid per lb; medium, to 9d per lb; faulty, 7*d to 8d; damaged, s.}d to Cd; bare skins to quarter wool. 7d: salted, best heavy to 11/1; good, 8/11 to 9/; medium. 7/1 to 8/6; poor, 5/ to 5/6; others, 2/9 to 4/G. Hides: —Number of lots passed in: Quotation, best heavy ox, Sd to BJd per lb, medium, do.. 71d: heavy cow, GAd to 6|d; best light, 6Jd to 6M; .second grade, od to s*d; poor, 3|d to 4Ad. Calfskins, 13d to 13* d per lb.
