SERIES OF CONCERTS.
-: . I BY MUNICIPAL ORGANISATION FIRST RECITAL TO-NIGHT. The first of a new series of municipal I concerts is to be given in the Town Hall this evening. To-morrow night, the Municipal Band will play a selected programme in the Town Hall, when there will be no charge for admission, following the decision that a number of free Sunday evening concerts be given. It has been arranged that a new system be followed in connection with Saturday night concerts. To-night, th e Municipal Choir, of 120 voices, will render a programme, assisted by Mrs. Cyril Towsey. and the city organist, Mr. Maughan Barnctt. Other municipal j organisations will take their turn. The ! Municipal Band, and vocalists, will prei sent a programme at the next Saturday concert, to be followed by the city organist and vocalists at the succeeding week-end, while on the fourth Saturday the entertainment will be contributed to by organist, band and vocalists. Organist and choir will also give free Sunday night concerts in the Town Hall. " The judiciously selected programme which is to be presented this evening by the Municipal Choir will include Balfour Gardiner's delightful number, "The Hunt is Up." Mrs. Cyril Towsey will sing Liza Lehmann's "Whene'er a Snowilake Leaves the Sky." and two bracketed numbers, "The Monotone' , (Cornelius) ■ and "Love Went A'Riding" (Bridge). Lovers of grand organ music will be particularly interested in the compositions to be played by Mr. Maughan Barnctt. They will include "Adagio." from Widor's Sixth Symphony. "Sugar Plum Fairy' , fTsehaikowski) and Rubinstein's "Wedding March."' The Municipal Band's free concert tomorrow evening will commence at 8.30 o'clock. The programme will include "Poet and Peasant." the "Egyptian" suite, and a selection "Reminiscences of Wale=." and Major T. H. Maloy will play a clarionet solo. "Les Alsaciennes." There is to he a re-arrangement of prices for J Tie Saturday night concerts. For the circle, the price is to be raised to 1/. with a limited number of reserved seats at 2/. The ground floor and upper circle will remain at the I former flat rate prioe of 6d. It is bej lieved by the council that the concerts Ito be presented will be well worth i higher prices, since the best vocalists are Ito be secured in order to make the J weekly concerts as attractive as posI sible.
