FORGED LETTER.
YOUXG MAX AND A GIRL. For forging a signature to a letter at Balchitha Harry "William Frank Greenyer. twenty-six years of ape, appealed be,ore his Honor Mr. Justice Sim at DuneiLn for sentence on Wednesday. Mr. B. S. Irwin appeared for accused, who, he said, had a good conduct record since his arrival in New Zealand in 191 S. Getting into trouble with a airl he foolishly wrote a letter and signed a fiet-tious name. Xo doubt he did not realise that he was committing forgery. Accused's employers gave him a good name, and one of them had entered into a bond that Greenyer would carry out his obligations to the girl. A bond for £100 had been given. His Honor said lie supposed that prisoner did not realise he was doing a criminal act. He was simply making a mean attempt to escape from his responsibility to the girl. \t was certainly not a case 'for severe punishment. Tt would be sufficient punishment if prisoner were fined enough to cover the expenses the country had incurred. Prisoner would be ordered to pay £o.
