ELECTRIC WIREMEN.
■ a _. CONTENTIOUS CLAUSE AMENDED. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. When the Electric Wiremen's Registration Bill was recently reported to the House from the Labour Bills Committea the matter was held up by protests from several members who considered that clause 18 (requiring electric wiring to be done by,' or under the supervision of, registered men) was too weak; that it would allow wiring to be done by unskilled persons. To-night, in the House of Representatives, the Prime Minister, who is in charge of the bill, said he intended to meet this point. When the bill was being considered next week, he intended to ask the House to insert a new clause which would ensure that electrical wiring should only be done by registered men with apprentices, but it would not permit labourers to do this work under supervision. This explanation was favourably received, and the report of the Labour Bills Committee, on the measure was adopted. — 9
