TRAM HITS BUS.

COLLISION IN CHRISTCHURCH. ESCAPE FOR PASSENGERS. The North Beach express tram and the inter-city bus, N.Z. 52-240, collided at the intersection of Stanmore Road and Worcester Street, Christchurch, at 5.20 laet Tuesday evening, there was a loud crash of glass, and in a few minutes there were hundreds of persons round about. The express had a full load; there were only three passengers in the bus, ' which was proceeding towards the city. As botli vehicles approached the corner apparently the usual warning signals were given. A second later brakes were applied, but the front tram crashed into the bus amidships, and turned it round so that the bus faced north-west. Glass was splintered in all directions! The side windows on the bus were smashed, and the running hoard was crumpled up. The platform of the tram, on whicli stood Motorman A. Ferguson, was damaged, and the glass was shattered. The passengers in the fore-cabin of the tram received a fright and a shaking. One of the large windows collapsed on the lap of a woman. The motorman, too, had a lucky escape; he was hit by several glass splinters, one of which just missed his eyes. The three bus passengers were sitting on the side awaj r from the crash. Andrew Boag was the driver of the bus.
