GENERAL ELECTIONS.
THE ROTORUA CONTEST. MR.. CLINKARD OPENS FIRE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, this day. Mr. C. H. Clinkard, representing the National party, opened his political campaign at Rotorua last night, trenchantly attacked the Reform Government on its policy in respect of railway, land settlement, establishment of royal commissions, etc. The speaker advocated agricultural banks, economy in defence matters, and bulk breaking in of unoccupied lands. He opposed proportional representation and fusion. Mr. Clinkard's speech was very well received and a vote of confidence was carried by acclamation. r PALMERSTON NORTH SEAT. THE LABOUR CANDIDATE. WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. W. Bromely, selected as Labour candidate for Palmerston North, is secretary of the Amalgamated Engineering Union and Wellington Trades Council. OTAGO CONSTITUENCIES. DUNEDIN, this day. Mr. J. J. Clark, ex-Mayor of Dunedin, who was previously defeated for Dunedin North, has decided not to be a candidate at the general elections. The Hon. W. Downie Stewart, who has improved in health, will again be' a candidate for Dunedin West. ■■
