DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Devonport Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. T. Lamont, presiding. Councillors present wero: Messrs. \Y. E. Napier, \V. S. Campbell, T. Massey, J. Hislop, S. Walker, E. Aldridge, and J. Henderson. A motion- of condolence with the relatives of the Into Cr. _ Bond was passed in silence, the Mayor and Mr. Aldridge paying tributes of respect to the civic work of their late colleague. New Zealand Exhibition.-—Communica-itlons from the president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Industries and Commerce, emphasising the desirability of support of the Auckland provincial display at the Dunedin Exhibition, evoked a discussion which was summarised by the Mayor into the passing of a vote of £ 50, Messrs. Lamont. Henderson and Hislop warmly supporting the proposal.
Diso-rdorly Behaviour.—A complaint was received from a rpsiilent of Church Street with regard to disorderly behaviour in that locality. Ou the motion of Mr. Aldridge It was ordered to be remitted to the police
and the chairman of the Licensing Committee, the Mayor, as chief magistrate of the borough, to urge immediate attention to ithe matter.
Postal Deliveries. —The matter of improviug the postal delivery to North Devonport was introduced by Mr. Campbell, who instanced various inconveniences due to the present once-a-day delivery. It was decided to make representations to the postal authorities, urging consideration of delivery twice a day.
Calliope Road Formation.—A representative deputation of Calliope Road and Stanley Bay residents waited upon the council for information on the permanent formation of Calliope Road. Messrs L T Haselden and F. Gribben deplored the unsatisfactory (condition of this arterail outlet, and asked for fulfilment of definite pledges for its improvement. The Mayor in reply, stated that the plans were now ready and the money was available for the prosecution of the work, and that preliminary operations would commence in about a month's time. Mr. J. Henderson chairman of the Works Committee, also assured the deputation of his interest in ,the work which was being considered in connection with further loan proposals. Rangitoto Domain.—The engineer preI senterl a requisition for stores for work on the .new road on Kaugitoto. and reported
that the hutments for prison labour were now ready. The Minister of Justice wrote to the council informing them that this work would shortly be commenced, but that at present he could not arrange for any departmental assistance for the cleaning of Mount Victoria.
Visit of Takapuna council.—At the conclusion of the borough business, the members of the Takapuna c-ounc-ri were entertained, and matters of interest to the two boroughs were informally discussed. The question of water supply was remitted to it meeting next Monday night at the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. The matter of linking up main rontTs was referred to the engineers to report, while ilte proposed establishment of North Shore abattoirs and publicity affairs were left for decision to the Marine Boroughs' Association.
Stanley Bay Reclamation.—lt was reported that work ou the Stanley Bay reserve would commence :n a-.iout a fortnight, and instructions were given to have all interfering vegetation removed.
