COX'S CREEK PARK.

In order to improve that rather unsavoury spot, the mouth of Cox's Creek, several proposals have been made from time to time. The latest is to turn it into a water park, and residents in this neighbourhood are now moving, in that direction. The City Council is about tu renew the bridge at the foot of West End Eoad, which- gives access to the lower part of Richmond. Residents who want to see eventually a water park here. say the bridge should be about ten feet higher than proposed by -the council. If the level were raised as suggested it would enable the crooked West End Boad to be considerably straightened, and it would also allow of the raising of the embankment (on the west side of tho bridge) which protects the road from the sea. In very stormy weather the waves wash over the roadway. This raising of the bridge level and the straightening of the West End Road are all that are necessary at present. Later when funds warrant, the proposal is to reclaim the mangrove flat on the west side of the creek just inside the sea wall, and canalise the creek, with probably a wider basin towards the mouth for. boating. It is contended that the reclaimed area referred to would provide a recreation ground that would be invaluable to the district in the future. However, in the meantime, the only urgent work is the raising of the bridge level, and steps are to be taken to approach the council with a view of getting the matter reconsidered.
