NEW ZEALAND BEAUTY.

AND N.S.W, JUSTICE. 3 OWEN—CHAPMAN WEDDING. j< ? (From Onr Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, August '27. i The wedding of Mr. Justice Langor J Owen,' Divorce Court Judge, of Sydney, ■; and Miss Hilda Chapman, of New Zea- I land, was solemnised on Tuesday at St. John's Church oi England, .Toorak, Melbourne. - : It was a very quiet affair, as the parties have never courted publicly since ; they met. The ceremony at Toorak on Tuesday was shrouded in so much mystery ' that most of Melbourne's select society, anxious to be present whether invited or not, were in absolute ignorance of the venue of the ceremony. The party arrived in five completely cloEcd-in cars, and were married by the vicar, Dr. Law, before eleven close friends, within a quarter of an hour of their arrival at the church. The friends included Mr. William Winter-Irving and his wife, Mr. and Miss Purves-Smith, and Miss Gladys Owen. The best man was Mr. Justice Macfarlanc, of Melbourne. The bride was dressed in a fawn tailored costume, cloche brown hat and tan chocs, and carried a bunch of violets. Her father, Sir Frederick Chapman, exJudge of the New Zealand Supreme Court, gave her away. Romantic circumstances, which will bear re-telling, led up to the engagement. Miss Chapman and Mr. Justice Langcr Owen met on a liner bound for England, when the latter was enjoying a holiday last year. Although the news of the engagement leaked out soon afterwards, no official announcement was made until months later, and throughout the courtship Judge Owen decried any mention of the matter 'by the newspapers.
