GIFT TO THE ARAWAS.

PRESENTED BY THE ADMIRAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. This morning Admiral Coontz, on behalf of the U.S. Fleet, presented to the Hon. J. (;. (nates, to present to the Arawa Maoris, a little silver vessel. The Premier received it with pleasure. and spoke of the level footing on which the Maoris had been placed by the New Zealand (iovernment. Admiral Coontz said the present was a token of appreciation of the hospitality extended to the Fleet visitors at Rotorua. Their kindness he would always remember. Lieutenant Keepa Ehiui, a member of the Arawa tribe, who was wounded in the Great War, also said a few words and expressed appreciation of the gift.
