SAWDUST AS FUEL.
. MADE INTO BRIQUETTES. In view of the fact that all timber mills necessarily produce a lot of eawdust, which has- generally been wasted, it is of interest to record that a paragraph in the "Tho Timberman" states that Dr. George Sharkley, of the People's Fuel Company, Bellingham, Washington, has expressed tho opinion that 6awdust can be carbonised into briquettes to be used for firing purposes, About a timber milling districts in New Zealand a lot of reclamation of river flats has been done by deposits of sawdust, in fact in the vicinity of Dargaville one or two settlements are built on mud flats reclaimed by sawdust deposits. If it is possible to utilise what hitherto has been a waste product of timber milling, and economically convert it into fuel briquettes, it will mean a big thing for the timber induetry. There ie also a possibility that coal dust may, in tho near future, be converted int6 briquettes for fuel purposes. It is claimed- this has already been demonstrated by experiments, to be quite possible, and that briquettes can be made at a cost which will enable this article to be placed on the market at a reasonable price.
