FIRE BRIGADES' BILL.
I A UNIQUE ACCOUNT. ; SUPPRESSING A SCHOOL FIRE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Education Board was surprised ye-sterday by the receipt of a unique account from the fire brigade for the suppression of a fire at Clyde Quay School. The items'read: "Superintendent, £2 2/; deputy-superintendent ±1 ]/• two sub-officers, 10/6 each, £1 1/; ten men, at 3/ each, £1 10/; use of plant, £2 2/; total £7 16/." No one seemed to be know anything about the matter, and inquiry of the City Council Fire Brigade Committee elicited nothing more than a hazarded suggestion that there might be some arrangement between the brigade and local bodies that did not pay rates, to charge for their services. Air. Forsyth (chairman of the Education Board")' said he thought the city council was adopting a curious method of raising revenue. The town clerk will be asked to officially shed light on the account. i ====== -W;
