BREACHES OF AWARD.
A CHEMIST'S COMMISSION. Three cases came before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to-day, at the Magistrate's Court, being brought by Mr. J. Hollows. Inspector, for alleged breaches of awards. The first case was against Teeds, Ltd., for failing to pay award rates as prescribed by the Retail Chemists' Assistants' award, to T. X. Blomfield. It was stated that £3 per week and 10 per cent commission was paid, instead" of the award rate of £5 10/. Mr. Leary said the man asked to be employed, and was put on more out of good nature. Neither the employer nor the employee was aware that the contract entered into came within the pinvisions of the award. The arrears had been paid, and the man was retained in the employ of the firm at the award rate of pay. A penalty, of £2 was imposed. Thomas Nevill Blomfield was also ordered to pay £2 penalty for accepting less than the award rate H. M. Corin was charged with failing to pay weekly all wages due to a plumber, T. R. Fletcher. Mr. Mellsop represented the employer and explained that at times the man had been taken off plumbing and put on to collect accounts. Mr. Hollows pointed out that the man was employed as a plumber, and must be paid accordingly. He stated that the arrears had been paid. A penalty of £2"was imnosod.
