PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD

The fortnightly meeting of the Papakura Town Board was held on Monday evenins. the chairman (Mr. A. D. Nicholson i presiding. A complaint about stagnant water in Settlement Road was referred to the health Inspector fair. Thompson). The Newmarket Borough Council suggested that the present basis upon which traffic license fees are collected by the Auckland City Council 'Is Inequitable, and that the time was opportune to move in the direction of substituting the basis of valuation for that of popu lation. The. hoard decided to reply to the brigade that it saw no reason for meeting their committee till they had replied to previous proposals. The secretary of the Methodist Trust wrote saying that the trust had agreed to lease a section for the purpose required. It was agreed to communicate with the trustees and ask their terms. The building inspector reported that from Tuly 24 to 31. 1925. the number of brk-k buildings, including Mr. Dowling's shop, completed during that period was four. Work was proceeding on four others. Seventeen four and twelve five-roomed dwellings had been erected, all with the usual conveniences. Nine new dwellings were in course of erection; 18 additions had been made to existing premises; and 20 small buildings, not dwellings, had been erected. One factory (Mr. A. W. Richardson's) was completed. -Four hn|Mfn-»« were destroyed by fire and one (the bake, house) was being re-erected. A deputation from Young's Beach Road complained that this thofoughfare was almost impassable, and they thought it was high time the board metalled the road. The chairman said they had had to turn the matter down on account of finance: they had other proposals coming on. and they had to he mighty careful. It would cost £160 down to the first corner. Mr. Milne moved "That the "board arranee to hold a ratepayers' meeting and a poll be taken in conlunction with the footpath scheme to metal certain roads, the roads to be nominated by the Works Committee." This was seconded by Rev. Wood, who s.ii.i "If we prepare a scheme it will possibly be £5000. It seems to mc we should "srrve the ratepayers the opportunity of raising a loan." The motion was carried.
