REFUSAL OF DUTY.
THE WIIiLASTON STRIKE. A SETTLEMENT REACHED. (By Tulesrapb.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Seventeen members of the crew of the steamer Willaston were charged with impeding the progress of the voyage of the ship by refusing duty. The case against the chief cook was taken first. The master of the vessel said the crew had behaved well since leaving Kngland but they refused to go to sea because six men he had had to engage in New Zealand were receiving a higher rate pf wages and they wanted to be placed on the same level.' The cook was convicted and ordered to forfeit seven days' pay. Notice of appeal was given. Subsequently a settlement was reached between the master and the men and the remaining charges were withdrawn.
