|| What owners think of their Velie Cars. One of || | several letters we have recently received from Velie jj I owners:— If I MP<:cdc , Auckland, July 30th. 1925. . || I MESSRS. G. L. WINGER & SON, if Grey Street, Auckland. || J I Dear Mr. Winger, jf |l So satisfied have I been with the operations of my Sports Model Velie || 11 that I thought I would give you some kind or report as to the two trip* which 1 |f If undertook recently for business purposes in the North and South'lslands of New \i i 1 Zealand. ( I' |1 On April 16 I left Auckland and travelled via Mount Messenger, on the jjf || West Coast, to New Plymouth. I visited all the important towns in the Waikato I'll an d in Taranaki. I finally reached Wellington on April 26. . If ll From there I proceeded to the East Coast, visiting all the town en route, || || passing through the Motu Gorge, to Opotiki. From there to Whakatane, Rotorua, j'\ 11 and Taupo. From Taupo I came back via Atamuri, thence to Matamata, Te || II Aroha, Morrineville, and Thames. From Thames 1 shot across the Hauraki §§ 11 Plains, through to Pokeno and home. if || Altogether I covered over 2000 miles. I had one puncture only, but not II the slightest mechanical inconvenience. The oil consumed was particularly low. || |1 and the benzine averaged, on a straight run, about 20 miles to the gallon. The || i| car held the road in a remarkable manner, and the brake was so.good on steep || 11 declivities and turns that I had no necessity to use the gears for braking purposes. || II The balloon tyres proved a revelation in continuous and rough travel, and not || 11 the slightest discomfort was felt on the trip, and the usual tiredness experienced || ll after a day's journey on high-pressure tyres -was noticeable by its absence. || f§ Another important trip which I took on behalf of this company on business ' if purposes was the organisation, of our Melodia Campaign in the South Island. JJ II I left Auckland on June 23 in particularly bad weather. 1 just preceded || ii the floods which disarranged both train and road services in the North Island, - II although when I passed over the roads they were bad enough and threatening '" H II trouble. |i II I took the same route as on my previous trip to Wellington, and slushei || || through rain and mud the whole way down. I shipped the car from Wellington SF || to Picton, and again struck floods between Picton and Blenheim. Owing to ?] |l shortness of time 1 was forced to tackle some very dangerous flooded .areas, where \f_ 11 even the service cars or Fords would not negotiate. 1 covered up the vital parts || ll with a sack, and placed a sack over the radiator, and the Velie went through |i: || three feet of water at fair speed on low gear. Other cars following mc got stuck . H || in the middle of the waters and had to be towed through. p| || Between Blenheim and Nelson I again struck heavy flood waters, but I had |§ 11 little fear of passing these because of the experience above-mentioned. Bad II II weather and slush followed mc right through to Murchison, on the West Coast of \\ \\ the South Island. At Westport I experienced the first fine day of my journey, || 11 covering almost 10 days' travel. || 11 From Westport I proceeded to Reefton, Greymouth and Hokitika. From the H II latter place 1 motored to Otira, and railed the car through the tunnel to Spring- |j II field. From there I motored to Christchurch. I then proceeded from Christchurch II 11 to Bluff in very bad weather, and visited all the important towns en route. || II From the Bluff I motored back to Christchurch in reasonably fine weather. || || Altogether in that trip I covered just on 2800 miles, and I did not have a single \\ ll puncture, or experience the slightest mechanical defect. ' 1| 11 The consumption of benzine was about the same at in the first trip, notwith- §| If standing the slush, and hard driving. Altogether I can confidently assert that II If in the annala of back road motoring, meeting all sorts of gradients, and all sorts II H of roads, it would be a difficult matter to surpass the Velie for New Zealand ii 11 service under all conditions. Consistent performance as above indicates great jjg ii merits in any car, and I think that when the Velie becomes better known in the jji II South Island towns, it will find its way into popularity against any make, because Ii !§ of its general performance under good or bad conditions. \\ (SH rSD Yours faithfully, <5)12\ jE3BESK The original of this letter can be seen at our Office. jEIjHEK \jr (j.
