SHEARERS IN AUSTRALIA.
THE WAGE QUESTION.
MELBOURNE, August 10. The President of the Federal Arbitration Court (Mr. Justice Powers) summoned a compulsory conference of the parties to the dispute regarding shearers' rates and conditions, namely, the Australian Workers' Union and the Pastoralists' Association. Representatives of New South Wales, Victoria, West Australia, and Tasmania attended, but. as an agreement could not be reached, the dispute was referred to the Arbitration Court.— {A. and N.Z.)
