CLAIM AGAINST PLUMBER.
NO BREACH COMMITTED. Judgment has been delivered by the Arbitration Court in a claim heard in July in which the Inspector of Awards, Auckland, sought to recover from < .corge Edward Hamilton, plumber, of Epsom, £10, as a penalty for an alleged breach of the Plumbers and Gasfitters' Award. The allegation was that the defendant, then being an employer bound hy the award, failed to -pay to one of his employees the minimum wage prescribed. In its judgment the Court stated that the employee concerned was employed as an apprentice, but owing to non -registration within the specified period of a contract of apprenticeship the lad could not be regarded as an apprentice working under a valid contract of apprenticeship. The lad had only performed unskilled work, did not use the tools or solder, and the Court held that iro breach had been proved. Judgment was therefore for defendant.
