Members of the Bayswater-Belmont Women's Society, and friends, enjoyed nn interesting lecture by Mrs. Nellie Ferner, at the Club House on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Ferner, who recently returned from a trip abroad, impressed her listeners with the fact that women throughout the world, are entering more and" more into public lite, especially where education and child welfare are concerned. The staff of Bradstreet's gave their annual dance on Tuesday evening in the Masonic Hall. The decorations were carried out in red and gold, and were very pretty and effective. King, Vauxhall Road, Devonport, the gathering being held in honour of Miss Jesn Tapper, who has acted as secretary to the club during the past two years. Two competitions took place during the afternoon, the winners being Misses Lorna Westwood and Ina Wight. The president. Miss Jackson, spoke in eulogistic terms of the work done by Miss Tapper during her period of office and expressed the appreciation of the members of her efforts in the interests of the club. , The Scots Hall was on fete on Tuesday evening last when the St- Mary's Convent Old Girls held their annual ball. Wallace has returned to Rotorua "irom Wellington. Mrs. Coleman, Ranolf Street, left last week for Auckland. Mrs. A. Munro, Kaiangaroa Plains, spent the week-end in Rotorua. Mrs. R. Copeland Smith, Te Ngae, is on a visit to Christchurch. The St. Luke's Ladies' Guild held a very successful 500 tournament and dance on Thursday evening at St. Luke's Parish Hall, when there was a good attendance. The lounge had been specially arranged for cards, while dancing took place in the body of the hall. A dainty supper was served. In the Monte Carlo dance the winning couple 'was Miss Clarice Smith and Mr. James Glass. In the card tournament the ladies' first prize was won by Mrs. H. Bennett (Wellington), and the gentlemen's prize was won by Mr. Morton. Among those present were Archdeacon and Mrs. Chatterton, Rev. and Mrs. Weadon, Mr. and Mrs. J. Halkett, Mr., and Mrs. Donaldson. The supper was artistically arranged with bowls of spring bulbs and primrose-shaded ribbons.
