POISON IN WAR.
CHEMISTS DESIRE IT.
"INTERESTS OF HUMANITY."
(Received 2.30 p'.m.f NEW YORK, August 5,
Over a thousand members of the American Chemical Society in the annual session at LoS Angeles adopted resolutions declaring the recent prohibi-. tion of chemical warfare by the Geneva Conference to be a menace to humanity and to the safety of the United States.
The chemists vigorously declared that pacifists were seeking to undermine national defence.
The meeting contended that the prohibition of chemical warfare meant the abandonment of humane methods for the old butchery of attack. It also declared that as the Geneva protocol v goes no further than the Washington Conference) its ratification now would embarrass the logical prosecution of scientific research on behalf of national defence, which at any time may be threatened by pacifists who for this purpose had combined with economists.— ("Sun.")
