N.Z. LEAGUE TOURISTS. MATCH LOST TO IPSWICH. BRISBANE, August 5. The New Zealand Rugby League team to-day played Ipswich. The visitors were defeated by the narrow margin of one point, the final scores being: Ipswich 22, New Zealand 21. New Zealand was leading two minutes before the close of the game. The visitors showed improved form, although their combination was still weak, particularly in the first half. Twenty-five minutes after the commencement of play Ipswich led with 11 points to 0, but at half-time the scores were: Ipswich 14, New Zealand 13.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
SWIMMING IN AMERICA.
VANCOUVER, August 5
At a swimming gala at Victoria, British Columbia, J. Weismuller, of Chicago, in a handicap race swam the 100 yds (open style) in 51 2-ss. Although this does not equal his performance at Seattle last week, when he swam the 100 yds (free style) in 50 4-59, it is 3-5s better than his previous record for the distance.
v Conrad Mila, of Chicago, in the quarter-mile baek-otroke race, lowered the world's' record held ■by Blitz (Belgium) by 4-ss. He swam the distance in 6m 1 1-os.— (Reuter.)
