A farewell to Mr. James Gerald, who leaves Auckland at the end of next week, will be tendered on the Civic Square'site from 12.30 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday • next. Duringr his visits to thiß city Mr. Gerald has given a good deal of "help to hospital and other •funds, and the opportunity will be taken by those interested in the institutions to which he has lent assistance to return thanks and bid Mr. Gerald and his company farewell. Investigation of the accounts of. the Repatriation Department, the manasement of which was transferred to the State Advances Office in November last, has disclosed that losses totalling £37,77S have so far been ascertained. The borrowers having been unable to meet their commitments, £12.441 of this will require to be written off this year. The balance has already been written off.
