KETCH FAIRBURN IN PORT.
ARRIVES UNDER OWN POWER,
The auxiliary ketch Fairburn, which stranded on Ocean Beach last week, and was refloated early on Thursday morning, arrived unexpectedly at Auckland yesterday afternoon.
The ketch, which was under the command of Captain Teixeira, was on her way from Whakatane to Whangaroa, when she encountered heavy northerly weather. When off Ocean Beach, midway between Whakatane and Matata, she made an unsuccessful attempt to put to sea and was finally run ashors on the sandy beach on the evening of July 23. Captain Teixeira was injured by a blow from the wheel and was later conveyed to the Whakatane Hospital. The Fairburn remained on the beach until Thursday morning, when she was hauled off by her own winches to a sea anchor. It was then thought that the ketch would make for Tauranga, and her arrival at this port was not looked for. On arrival yesterday afternoon she was berthed at the Nelson wharf. It is understood "that she will be placed on the patent slip for repairs. With the exception of a broken rudder the ketch is little damaged, and is leaking only slightly.
