CANTERBURY NOTES.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. On Wednesday Delavan Quest (F. Holmes Jun.), led Sheik (P. Riddle) over two miles, in the early stages. the pace was slow, but over the last Tour furlongs it was increased, and both horses finished up well, especially Sheik which was in the middle or the course. E. J. Smith's pair, Bruce and Fancy Boy worked together over two miles, but were not sent against the watch. Mangoutu trotted two miles In her best style. She is in nice racing condition and should pay her way at the meeting. Her stabiemate Henry Tracey was allotted strong work over a journey. His effort lacked dash and was anything but impressive. Vilo (harness) and Landlord (saddle). were companions in a strongly run two" miles. It was a nice effort and both ilnished on terms. Reta Peter moved with her usual freedom over several circuits, as also did Lackiewood. Wenlo (F. J. Owen) and a maiden trotter by Great Audubon Trom a Harold Dillon mare In A. Cox's stable, worked two miles. The time was not rast, but the effort or both was pleasing. E. Carlyon gave Dillon S. strong exercise over a journey. The son of Dan Dillon has wintered well and is in nice condition. Young Blake got to the end of two miles without a mistake. The Wildwood Junior gelding has.-done well of late and should race prominently early in the coming season. Away showed a fine turn or speed while pacing two miles. Bessie Logan assisted over ten furlongs and as she worked without the straps her display was a most pleasing one. Kissing Cup assisted Argus over two miles. They finished on terms arter giving a nice exhibition of pacing. Bell Harold, Nelson Derby, Proud Ata, Sol, La Fayette, Nelson Ata. Hypo, Escapade, George Grafton, Pinevale, Billy Whiz, and Brownwood were restricted to slow exercise. Don Wild was not on the course yesterday, and it is reported that the freelegged son of Don Pronto and Wild Duck has broken down. J. Bryce will assist at the Auckland Trotting Club's Fleet Meeting with Taurekareka ana Ivy Audubon. Harerera did not remain long in J. Henderson's stable at Oamaru as the Harold Rothschild gelding has been returned to his owner in Southland. Pessimist, which won several sprint races this season for the Oamaru sportsman. Mi-. J. O'Brien., has been shipped to Tasmania where the brother to Albert Cling will race in future.

After several months' spell Logandale has been taken in hand again by E. Berry, but it will be some time berore the brother to Loganwood Is ready to race.

With the recent line weather the AdtHngtoh course is in good order. Trainers are very busy with their horses and the work yesterday proved very interesting. Keau John led Napland over two miles. Both horses showed a userul turn or speed and are very well at present. H. Frost was a visitor rrom NewBrighton with .Harewood, Cup Day, Pieter Timmerman, Princess Reta, and a maiden by Great Audubon rrom Annie Dillon, and gave them strong work. They look in good condition and did their work in a satisfactory manner. Great Bingen gave a finished display or pacing over a mile and a-quarter, and Judging by his clTort he is nearing the top or his rorm. The Auckland-owned mare. Florrie Bingen, was given a rast workout over two miles and acquitted herseir well. Away, which is in ilrst-class rettle, covered two miles in his best style. George Grarton, in harness and without the hopples, paced evenly over a mile and a-quarter. Bessie Logan. Dolly Dillon, and Logan Lou worked over a journey and gave a nice display. Audominion trotted a mile and a-half in his best, style. Similar tasks were done by Golden Sun and Proud Ata. Nelson Derby was always going better than Royal Chance in a solidly-run mile and a-hair. Colchester and Wild Hebe went two miles, iSepia and Earl Derby assisting over the first mile and a-quarter. Others that did userul exercise were Sheik, Pearlie Chimes. Billy Whiz, Pinevale, Bell Fashion, Royal Audubon, Stroller, jsyallo, Escort and Rebel.
