DANGER TO JOCKEYS.

CLAUDELANDS QUESTIONED.

(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday.

"In view of the fact that the Minister of Internal Affairs is the only man who can project the jockeys from being compelled to ride on dangerous tracks, and as we have had eight jockeys killed in the last 18 months, will the .Minister have an inspection made of the Claudelands trotting track f" asked Mr. Parry in the House of Representatives this afternoon. The member for Auckland Central said he had read that the Waikato Hunt Club was endeavouring to hold its race meeting at Claudelands owing to the excessive charge of £35C being asked by the Waikato Racing CluO for the use of the Te Rapa course. If the Claudelands course was dangerous for gallops, would the Minister refuse to grant a permit to the Waikato Hunt Club to race on it?

Mr. Bollard: Up to 12 months ago this course was used by the Hamilton Racing Club for meetings, and was considered as safe a course as any in New Zealand. Since the trottinir club has been in occupation it has held meetings there, and I do not know of any accidents. Indeed. I do not think there Was any serious accident there when the jockey "club had the course. However, an inspection will be made, and I will notify the hon. member when it is to be made.
